9 key facts Reviewed Oct 2026
The 1-minute sheetCinnaEntry

Methods

  • Common denominator — convert, then compare numerators
  • Cross-multiply — 2/3 vs 3/5 → 2×5=10 vs 3×3=9, so 2/3 is larger
  • Convert to decimals — divide top by bottom

Shortcuts

  • Same denominator → bigger numerator wins
  • Same numerator → smaller denominator wins (1/3 > 1/5)
  • Compare each to 1/2 as a benchmark

Ordering

  • Put them all over one denominator, then line up the numerators
  • Watch negatives — −1/2 is less than −1/4

On Test Day

  • Decimals are fastest when the choices are mixed fractions and decimals
