Add & Subtract

  • Line up the decimal points, then add or subtract normally
  • Fill empty places with zeros as placeholders
  • 3.2 + 4.75 → 3.20 + 4.75 = 7.95

Multiply

  • Ignore the decimals, multiply as whole numbers
  • Count total decimal places in both factors
  • Place that many in the answer: 0.3 × 0.04 = 0.012

Divide

  • Move the divisor's decimal to make it whole
  • Move the dividend's decimal the same number of places
  • Then divide normally

Check

  • Estimate first — 0.3 × 0.04 should be small, not 1.2
