Coordinating

  • FANBOYS — for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
  • Join equal parts; use a comma before one linking two independent clauses

Subordinating

  • because, although, since, while, if, when, after, unless
  • Start a dependent clause — it cannot stand alone

Correlative

  • Pairs: either/or, neither/nor, not only/but also
  • Keep the structure on both sides parallel

Punctuation

  • Dependent clause first → use a comma. Last → usually none
