How the TEAS is scored
The TEAS 7 puts 170 questions in front of you in 209 minutes, but only 150 are scored. The other 20 are items ATI is trialling for future exams. They are not marked, you cannot spot them, and they do not count, which is the whole reason you should never leave one blank.
Your total is the percentage of those 150 you got right. Because the sections are different sizes, they do not carry equal weight: Science alone is 44 of the 150. A section-by-section percentage that looks balanced can still hide the one that is costing you the most points, which is what the calculator above shows you.
What the number means
ATI sorts the total into five national proficiency levels. 58.7% is the bottom of Proficient and a very common floor for ADN programs. 78% is the bottom of Advanced and competitive nearly anywhere. Your own program's published cutoff is the one that binds you, and where seats are scarce, the admitted cohort's average matters more than the published minimum.

How is the TEAS total score calculated?
Your Adjusted Individual Total Score is the percentage of scored questions you answered correctly across all four sections. The TEAS 7 has 170 questions but only 150 are scored. The other 20 are unscored items ATI is trialling, and they are not identified, so you should answer every question.
Is this the same as my official ATI score?
It is a close estimate, not the official number. ATI applies its own scaling before reporting, so your report can land a fraction of a point either side of a straight percentage. For deciding whether you are on track, the difference does not matter.
What is a good TEAS score?
58.7% is the bottom of ATI's Proficient band and a common floor for ADN programs. BSN programs commonly want 65–75%. Anything at 78% or above is Advanced and competitive almost anywhere.
Do all four sections count equally?
No. They are weighted by how many scored questions each one holds. Science carries 44 of the 150 scored questions and Reading 39, so a bad Science section costs you more than a bad English section.
