What Is on the TEAS Test?

The ATI TEAS 7 covers four sections — Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English & Language Usage — across 170 questions, with Science carrying the most scored items.

Reading — 39 scored questions

Key ideas and details, craft and structure, and integration of knowledge and ideas. In practice: main idea, supporting detail, inference, author's purpose and tone, text structure, and reading practical documents such as labels, schedules and directions.

Mathematics — 34 scored questions

Numbers and algebra, then measurement and data. Arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, ratios and proportions, solving equations, unit conversion, geometry basics, and interpreting charts. There is no trigonometry or calculus.

Science — 44 scored questions

The heaviest section. Human anatomy and physiology dominates — roughly half the section — followed by biology, chemistry, and scientific reasoning. Expect body systems, cells, genetics, macromolecules, atomic structure, bonding, pH, and experimental design.

English & Language Usage — 33 scored questions

Conventions of standard English, knowledge of language, and vocabulary acquisition. Grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, and working out word meaning from context and word parts.

Because Science carries the most scored questions, a weak Science section pulls your composite down harder than any other. If you only have time to fix one section, fix that one.

Questions people ask

What is the hardest section on the TEAS?

Most test takers find Science hardest, largely because anatomy and physiology makes up about half of it and rewards memorization.

How much of the TEAS is anatomy and physiology?

Roughly half the Science section, which makes it the single largest topic on the exam.

Is there algebra on the TEAS?

Yes, but only basic algebra — solving one and multi-step equations, expressions and simple inequalities.

Is chemistry on the TEAS?

Yes, within the Science section: atomic structure, bonding, reactions, pH and states of matter.

Do I need to memorize formulas?

A few — area, perimeter, volume and common conversions. Most Science questions test understanding rather than recall of formulas.
